I’m so fucking, fucking, FUCKING SICK OF FUCKING FUCKING FUCKING FUCKING SCHOOL!
I went to the PT yesterday. He pretty much felt my foot up for an hour and said that it might just be an over-active joint that’s moving around and causing inflammation. That inflammation, in turn, is making it easier to be irritated and inflamed. He told me to take a week off (AHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!), take Tylenol everyday, and ice massage three times a day. Next week when I go back, he’s going to watch me run on a treadmill and see if anything strikes his fancy.
This better fucking work.
I haven’t really been posting much, or at all, recently. Tumblr hasn’t really been my top priority as of late (or ever, for that matter). I’m also pretty frustrated in general because I’ve developed an injury right when my mileage is supposed to start ramping up for the summer.
It started about two weeks before First State Invitational. The top of my right foot had been hurting. It was sort of a dull pain, but got worse when I ran, particularly when I strode off my toes. I decided to suck it up and just take Tylenol before my runs. First State Invitational came, I got my 5:00.11 and I took a week off. Coach was still having practice for the guys going to Counties and States and he wanted other guys who he liked to keep coming, myself included. I told him about everything and he let me be absent from practice for that week. The Monday after Counties I went to my doctor, who couldn’t really help me at all. But I had started running again and nothing hurt so I just kept going.
But then, out of the blue, I woke up and my foot hurt again. Damn. I knew this meant I had to go see a PT. My mom set up an appointment for tomorrow, but I think I already know what I have. Extensor tendonitis. It comes as a result of over-tightened shoes/boots/etc. overuse, and, probably most pertinent to me, curling one’s toes before striding off. I do all of those things. Luckily, the remedy doesn’t seem too intensive or will it take too long.
I can’t go into this summer injured.

After a week off running in hopes that my foot will rid itself of a possible injury, I finally got back to it. I was supposed to be at practice today, but my mom scheduled an appointment with my doctor regarding my foot. We went to check in at the doctor’s and apparently there wasn’t an appointment for me. Strange. I was with my mom when she made the appointment. Anyway, we rescheduled for tomorrow.
I figured I shouldn’t waste time and my foot really didn’t hurt today so I decided to go out for 30 minutes, or about 4 miles. It felt so good to get back on the trails. In fact, I’m pretty sure my runner’s high kicked in at around 7 minutes. I usually don’t get one until like 35 minutes into a run. It was great. Plus, my foot didn’t hurt. My right achilles was bothering me a little bit, but that’s not uncommon and it never really amounts to anything when it happens. But after my shower I was getting a little pain in my foot and I got a little scared. I stretched it out and now it doesn’t bother me. Hopefully this thing is gone for good.
But I can’t say anything for sure until I see the doctor tomorrow. I really need to get this under control before summer when I’ll be doing around 40 miles a week. Hopefully, at worst, I just need to get new shoes with a bigger toebox and my Saucony Kinvara 2s. Maybe a pair of some sweet New Balance Minimus 20s.
